What Lamp Type Should I Use?

There are three primary lamp type choices:
High Pressure Sodium (HPS), Metal Halide (MH), and Fluorescent.

Lamps labeled HOR (horizontal) and
BU (base up) are position oriented lamps.
Designed to give you the highest light output, but burn only in their designated positions.
Lamps labeled U (universal) may be burned in any position.
Universal lamps, however, will not be as bright as a position oriented lamp of the same wattage.

High Pressure Sodium (HPS) Lamps
Higher Yields, Abundant Blooms
and More Fruiting Sites
HPS Lamps elevate the red, orange and yellow electromagnetic wavelengths, which along with shorter photo-periods, signal the plant to start producing bloom hormones
The red, orange and yellow colors of the spectrum are hormonal tripping colors. This is to say that when the plant has these electromagnetic wavelengths pass thru it's leaves, bloom hormones are produced in the anticipation of the fall and winter seasons.

Increased red, orange and yellow wavelengths produce higher yields, especially  with quality plant foods.  Try Vita Grow Bloom Foliar Spray to increase fruiting sites by 20% more.

Indoor gardeners, lacking sun, may find that HPS lamps do not supply the necessary amount of blue light, to keep plants healthy.
Growing areas using HPS lamps exclusively in the bloom stage of growth may experience adverse vertical stretching and blooms only located  at the top of the plants You can burn a Metal Halide lamp along side of the HPS lamp to increase sugar production and horizontal growth.  It's best to use side lighting whenever possible, fruiting sites will not form where shadows fall.   You also may experience increased insect attack in the final stages of HPS only bloom growth.

Sunmaster Metal Halide Conversion Lamps
Burn Metal Halide Lamps in your HPS System

Sunmaster designed this high tech lamp exclusively for the plant growth industry, making it easy to switch from High Pressure Sodium lamps to Metal Halide lamps during the grow portion of the plant cycle.  Remember, plants need the blue light to be healthy (see below)

Medal Halide Ballasts (MH)

Sunmaster Metal Halide Lamps
Sunmaster Lamps are known for their 3, 4, and 6 thousand degree Kelvin color temperature lamps. Each class of lamp has had the metal halides inside the ark tube modified to burn at specific color temperatures without the need for colored glass or coatings.
The best lamp for vegetative growth
It is good to note that of all the colors in the spectrum, plants need a larger percentage of the blue spectrum to be healthy.  Blue light drives photosynthesis, trans-locates sugars and keeps the immune system working properly, and promotes horizontal growth.
